Some of the best thinkers I know can think both extremely short term and detailed, but able to scale their thinking to consider long term effects, i.e. the next 3-5 years.
Throughout my career, the best investment bankers, management consultants, and startup thinkers have been able to do this. Great bankers and management consultants know the financial/operational details of the project they're looking at, but can describe the strategy and impact it has on the rest of the industry. Superb startup thinkers can be extremely analytical on what a startup needs to do, but then extrapolate the effects it has in the medium term and the impact on fundraising, publicity, and hiring.
It's being able to keep both details and the long-term in mind, and understand how they both relate to each other.
