Creating a multi-generational legacy

I watched Crazy Rich Asians on the plane, which is a bit unusual of me as I normally don't watch popular rom coms. But it did prompt me to think through some of the multi-generational families that I've seen up close or through literature (eg. the Rothschilds). I’ve noticed that multi-generational families do a few things that are unique:

History: they understand their history, where they come from, and have artifacts to serve as totems of that history
Responsibility: they feel a responsibility to leave a better place, a better generation
Multi-cultural, multi-disciplinary: they feel comfortable and thrive in different locations, cultures, and disciplines
