There was someone I really really wanted to bring on to the program. She had the right qualifications, the right skills, and the je ne sais quoi that I could detect - an insatiable drive but with a postively generous spirit. Someone with that rare grit.
But as all good people go, she was offered another position (a good one!) and had to take it. It was too good to pass up.
It hurt to not recruit because I knew this opportunity could have made a huge difference to her career in the long-run. She could have really taken the experience and made it hers. But it wasn't meant to be.
Sometimes hiring means taking a leap of faith in people. And as much as it sucked today, I won't stop believing in people.
