I was just at the National Day celebrations earlier this week. I saw Carrie Lam address the crowd with her speech on the reunification, the current state of HK, and the future.
I found her speech credible. The vision she painted wasn't perfect and lacked of details, but I think part of the difficulty is understanding exactly what will happen in the future as she needs to sync up with the Central Government. And even the Central Government doesn't know exactly what will happen.
But what she set is the direction of things to come. Of further integration with China in terms of infrastructure, with greater technology sharing, and of being one country. Of celebrating and strengthening what's great about HK so that we are at a competitive advantage.
As consultants say, it's directionally correct. I think Carrie hit it on the spot.
