It frustrates me when I’m not hitting the standards I set for myself and for the team. I take that failure personally because I do believe in old school things like saying what you’d do and doing what you say.
On the other hand, I do have a lot of patience and tolerance for failure. I think it’s healthy to expect and want failure as a team, because failure is an opportunity for growth. With failing, lessons are a bit more poignant because they hurt.
What I don’t like is when failure becomes endemic and shifts standards. Failing once or twice is ok but if standards shift repeatedly then that is a no-go. Once those lower standards set in, the culture inevitably changes and people expect less of themselves and their team. This becomes a degrading cycle into lower expectations and standards.
